We continue to advance a coalition of stakeholders across the political spectrum and of corporations and NGOs to advance a revenue neutral price on carbon that will mobilize when the right political opportunity emerges.
In the meantime, from Oil Sands to Natural Gas Hydraulic Fracturing, we are advancing common objectives that ensure the development of these resources in the most environmentally responsible way while hastening our transition to a less carbon intensive energy system. To get involved, contact Scott Smithline, our Director of Energy and Climate.
Our water team, led by Matt Turner and supported by our outstanding Senior Fellows, Alex Echols and Rich Mcintyre, are hard at work building on our successful multi-sector stakeholder convening of stakeholders from corporations, NGOs, foundations, and SRIs, in mid-July at the Johnson Foundation at Wingspread.
They are now engaging a number of companies across sectors to work collectively with foundations and NGOs to advance agricultural water stewardship through the supply chain. To learn more and get involved, contact Bill Shireman, Future 500's President.
With our team's deep institutional knowledge of various packaging recovery systems, policies and the stakeholder and political dynamics, we see great opportunity for stakeholders to collectively advance comprehensive EPR policies in the U.S. for the first time. CONT'D BELOW...

Future 500 State of Business - Fall Report
by Erik Wohlgemuth, Chief Operating Officer
It's been the busiest year in Future 500's 15-year history with nearly 60% growth since last October so we have much to report on.
We are going to be traveling a lot this fall to events. Notably, the Commit! Forum where Future 500 co-founders, President Bill Shireman and Global Chairman Tachi Kiuchi, will be joined by Randy Hayes on the closing plenary this September 26th-27th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. Their story of overcoming conflict to advance systemic solutions to sustainability challenges is even more relevant in today's world of political polarization and demonization. In a world where government is increasingly incapable of finding consensus, Corporations and NGOs advancing solutions together is essential if we are to bring humanity into alignment with the limits of natural systems.
Many thanks to the dozens of NGOs and Corporations who responded to our email seeking their mutual commitments to for this event to inspire others to sign-on to accelerate the change we must see. We'd love your support so register to attend using 50% discount code 'FUTURE500' and if you have commitments to advance, please contact us with them.
As a new member of SRI in the Rockies Agenda Committee, I can attest to the committee's tireless work to craft a compelling, forward thinking agenda to inspire investors to action. Hence, I am even more excited to attend this year's conference in New Orleans October 2-5 and invite you to join me there. Save $100 by using discount code F500.
Building on the success of last year's Corporate Working Group on Stakeholder Engagement, we are pleased to again partner with the AHC Group to convene this group November 9-10 in San Francisco at the celebrated eco-lodge in Golden Gate National Park. This intimate working group, limited to 15 participants, is over 50% subscribed so reserve your place.
Lastly, save the date for Future 500's second annual cocktail fundraiser, November 2nd, at Delancey Street Foundation. Featured speakers include Nestle Waters CEO Kim Jeffery (confirmed) and Bobby Kennedy Jr. (invited) discussing the urgent need for corporate-NGO collaboration to advance solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.
At the event, we will present our
first annual Oddie Award in recognition of an outstanding agreement between an NGO and a company on a sustainability issue. We like to think of it as the Odd Couple, with a Future 500 twist!
Details on the evening program, sponsorship opportunities, and tickets soon to follow. For more information on sponsorship and tickets, contact Jessica Hammett.

Recycling & Product Stewardship (cont'd)
Spearheaded by our Director of Stakeholder Campaigns, Danna Pfahl, we recently hosted the third of a series of corporate-NGO meetings around advancing EPR policy in U.S. States that lack bottle bills. To learn more and participate in future convenings, contact Danna Pfahl, Future 500's Director of Stakeholder Campaigns.
Working in partnership with CalRecycles, we conducted a pilot test of the effectiveness of a mobile optical sorter (see graphic to left) to segregate bioplastics from the recycling waste stream at California's Richmond Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This pilot, which is one of several schedule, is testing the technological viability of segregating new packaging materials, such as bioplastics, from the recycling waste stream from a variety of waste recovery environments. To learn more about the process and
offer feedback on future pilots, please contact Greg Voelm, long-time dedicated Future 500 board member.
Labor & Transparency (cont'd)
We believe deeply that Information and Communication Technology holds great promise to drive large-scale, systematic reductions in energy and water usage through the supply chain, enable market access to advance economic prosperity, and cultivate freedom of expression and community connectivity that will drive more open and transparent societies and economies.
We intend to highlight the good and the bad of the proliferation of such technologies globally and what innovative NGOs and companies are doing to advance freedom, prosperity and sustainability. If you have interesting story ideas or NGOs or companies you want us to focus on, please contact our Director of Labor & Transparency, Juliette Terzieff.

Social Media
If you build it, they will come. We dipped our toe in the social media waters in early 2010 and ramped up earlier this year when our content team, headed by Juliette Terzieff and Nick Sorrentino, began honing our media strategy across various social media channels. From Facebook, Twitter, RSS, and e-newsletters, their efforts have been duly rewarded with growing and often eager interest in our message of overcoming demonization to find constructive paths, we have experienced rapid organic growth in our following, which now tops 30,000 collectively. To view Juliette and Nick's recent missives and subscribe to our various channels, go to:
People Coming & Going
We were pleased to add a terrific new staffer, Rebecca Foges, as a Manager of Stakeholder Engagement, focused initially in our energy and climate program. She comes to us from the UK conservation organization, Fauna and Flora International, where she served as their Communications Officer for their Business & Biodiversity team.
We wish a fond farewell to our super intern, Tomo Sandeman, who returned to the UK to pursue a career in clean tech research and investment. Tomo has a maturity and a depth of knowledge well beyond his years. Tomo, we look forward to watching what will surely be an influential career for you. Our door is always open!
